TEAC adds DSD-compatibility to next-gen Portable Headphone AmplifierPress Release dated: 20 Jun 2016
TEAC is pleased to announce the HA-P5, its latest Portable Headphone Amplifier, featuring an all-new physical design and incorporating state of the art ‘trickle-down’ technology from the brand’s award-winning standalone USB DAC and headphone amplifier.
HA-P5 – Key Features
• New, ergonomic, all-aluminium alloy design weighing just 182g
• USB DAC supports DSD 5.6MHz and PCM 24-bit/192kHz
• Amplifier delivers 2 x 160mW (at 32ohm load)
• Headphone output features separated earth grounds for left/right channels
• Direct connection with iOS devices for Hi-res playback
• LED indicators for incoming digital audio formats
• Handles USB/Coaxial/Optical/Analogue Line-in signals
• Free Hi-res playback apps/software
Made in TEAC’s own factory in Tokyo, the ultralight HA-P5 (made of aluminium alloy and weighing just 182g) works with iOS and Android-based devices and delivers superb playback of stored hi-res audio content (DSD 5.6MHz and PCM 24-bit/192kHz).
To ensure the highest level of fidelity TEAC has chosen to base the HA-P5’s circuit design on that already used and proven in its award-winning hi-fi components, namely the UD-501 DAC and HA-501 headphone amplifier.
Hi-res digital audio signals are routed via a Burr-Brown PCM1795 D/A converter before being passed to a high-power 2 x 160mW (at 32 ohms) Class A/B amplifier. A high signal to noise ratio (110dB) and the use of hi-fi grade op-amps (OPA1602) plus large capacity chip-film capacitors helps ensure a dynamic, wide-range sonic performance with a 10Hz-100kHz frequency response.
Two, totally separate master clocks have been fitted to handle incoming 44.1kHz and 48kHz digital signals, an arrangement that delivers a much more accurate final digital to analogue signal conversion. Likewise, the four-pole headphone socket (also compatible with three-pole headphone plugs) features wholly separate left/right channel earth grounds to ensure superior channel separation.
Usefully, status LEDs on the front of the unit clearly indicate what sort of signal you’re listening to, as well as showing you how much battery power you have left (the HA-P5 is good for 5 hours of playback time on a single charge).
As well as USB type A and B inputs (for direct connection of iOS and Android-based source devices), the HA-P5 also sports optical and coaxial digital inputs, both of which will support signals of up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. A line-level analogue output will also allow the HA-P5 to be hooked up to a conventional audio system when it’s used at home.
Designed from the ground-up for easy operation, the HA-P5 features a faired-in volume control that will help avoid accidental volume changes while it’s in your pocket or bag.
To get the most out of their devices, HA-P5 owners can also download TEAC’s excellent free Apps/Software for both iOS/Android devices and Mac/PC computers, by far the best way to enjoy hi-res audio.
